LMG recently provided video, lighting, and rigging for electronic music artist Subtronics’ largest headline show to date at the Tacoma Dome, marking the venue’s second-largest production ever for an EDM act. The impressive production featured 13 automated overheard LED pods and five 25′ x 40′ LED walls using ROE CB5 panels, complemented by lighting towers between the screens.

“This is the biggest show that Subtronics has ever done and we couldn’t be more proud of playing our part and witnessing the outcome.”

notes Karol Luczkiewicz, Account Executive at LMG Touring.

As an early adopter of the Agora networking system, which is rapidly gaining popularity as a robust touring network solution, LMG was able to deliver a seamless production that integrated complex lighting and video elements. The system has proven its reliability on major productions, establishing itself as a cornerstone of LMG’s largest shows.

The lighting package include 192 Robe MegaPointes, surpassing even LMG’s recent Hans Zimmer tour deployment. The production utilized a sophisticated networking setup with dual MA2 and MA3 networks running simultaneously through VLANs and network segmentation. This festival-style configuration allowed seamless transitions between performers, with operators able to switch control at the click of a button. LMG has Managed Fiber.

“Having cohabitating networks allows one operator to be running the show while the next operator gets ready, plugs in their file, loads it up, and then smoothly transitions control from one to the other,”

explains Max Tuchman, LMG Touring’s Technical Project Manager.

Thirteen automated pods featuring ROE Vanish 8 LED panels were suspended above the crowd, each controlled by four automation motors from CyberMotion. The complex setup required a custom mother grid system using Tyler GT and 20.5-inch box truss. LMG’s 9,600 square foot Las Vegas studio proved invaluable during pre-production, allowing the team to test-hang the pods and optimize the mother grid design before arrival at the venue.

The production design was created by Eric Mahowald of Bending Light Productions, known for their work with major EDM artists like Skrillex, deadmau5, and Griz. Spencer Michaels served as Lighting Director/Programmer, while Jake Keenan handled video programming duties.

“Having cohabitating networks allows one operator to be running the show while the next operator gets ready, plugs in their file, loads it up, and then smoothly transitions control from one to the other,” explains Max Tuchman, LMG Touring’s Technical Project Manager.

“This was simultaneously the largest and most stress-free Subtronics headline production we’ve ever done,” said Spencer Michaels. “The level of success we achieved was a direct result of the detailed preparation and unwavering support from LMG’s team.”

The video system utilized fiber optic solution with ethernet redundancy linking three dimmer beaches, running P3 data control alongside MAnet and streaming ACN. While incorporating four Marshall cameras, the IMAG feeds were processed through Resolume media servers and integrated into the main visual design across the massive LED walls.

“We approached this one-off show with the same detailed precision as a touring production,” explains Luczkiewicz. “Every piece of truss was labeled with specific universe and position information, matching the drawings exactly. This attention to detail allowed us to execute an extremely efficient load-in.”

The three-night run showcases LMG’s ability to handle large-scale EDM productions, building on their successful relationship with Subtronics following their Winter 2024 tour and other one-off shows throughout the year.
